Okaya Group’s electric vehicle distribution provider, Okaya EV has confirmed the launch of the new sensation Freedum. The energy solution provider has set the electric scooter’s starting price tag at INR 69,990. Since starting the operation in July 2021, the India-based company has launched its third product in the market, while the first two are ClassIQ series and AvionIQ series.
The Freedum is available in a total of four different variants, including low-speed and high-speed options. Generally, this electric-scooter is a low-speed offering and is launched for budget buyers along with delivery-based workers. It will feature both the Lithium Iron Phosphate battery and VRLA Lead Acid Battery. The scooter is said to offer a 250 km battery range on a single charge. There are several colour options including Red, White, Green, Blue to Black, Beige and Brown.
The energy solution provider, Okaya has been in the Indian market since 2016-17. From then, they were limited to supplying EV batteries. Thereafter they expanded and started the charging stations and EV chargers in 2019.
Okaya Power Group’s Managing Director, Anil Gupta said, “Owing to our allied business interests, it is only natural for us to have an advantage in the market space. Being very conscious of the quality and durability of our products, we have created a fully made-in-India proposition that fulfils the government's aim to see one crore E-scooters, on road by 2025.”
The company has informed that the manufacturing will take place at its own plant Baddi, Himachal Pradesh. The current production limit of the plant is around 1,25,000 per year. However, the company is aiming to increase it to 3 lakh per year by 2022.
Adding to that, Okaya also announced that the product count will rise to 14 in this financial year. There will be a high-speed bike along with some specialized B2B vehicles. Also, they are aiming to increase the dealer count to 800 by this year, which is now at 120 now.
