Apart from just knowing which bike managed to breach the top 5 positions, we will be discussing which particular bike is value for money and what all features are important for daily usage. As always, we will try to make sure to detail the important pros and cons of all the bikes presented on this list.

TVS Apache RR 310

The first position is occupied by none other than the TVS Apache RR310 because it has plethora of modern features and advanced technology to keep you busy for months after you have purchased the bike. RR 310 is a sports bike which has the ability to tackle the race tracks as well. It has been designed in such as way that it becomes a problem solver for most riders out there. Apache RR 310 is a versatile motorcycle because of its range of application in the daily life of an average enthusiast.

Speaking about the price, TVS Apache RR 310 starts from 2,59,500 ex-showroom for the base stock variant and anyone can customise the bike according to their requirements. There is a dynamic kit which is priced at Rs 12,000 and takes the price of the bike to Rs 2,71,990 ex-showroom. Further, you have the option of adding the Race Kit worth Rs 5,000 with which the bike cost Rs 2,64,990 ex-showroom. If you opt for both the Dynamic Kit and Race Kit, the price goes up to Rs 2,76,990.

Apart from the kits, you have an option of Race Replica colour scheme which is priced at Rs 4,500 and when all the three customisation units are applied on the RR 310, the total price of the sports bike becomes Rs 2,81,490 ex-showroom New Delhi. This process of building your bike before purchasing is what TVS calls BTO – Built To Order way of buying the bike.

Speaking about the features, the Apache RR 310 is fitted with twin bi-projector headlamp at the front end with LED lights. This way, the bike achieves a great level of illumination at night time. The other lighting units including the tail-light and turn indicators are all made of LED units as well. This ensures that the bike is a premium machine and is priced reasonably for what it offers.

The most intriguing feature on the Apache RR 310 is its TFT instrument cluster. This TFT unit is placed vertically as in portrait mode for offering information to the rider. The info includes all the basic ones like speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip meter, gear position indicator, fuel efficiency meter, distance to empty etc.

The meter console also comes with multiple UIs for different ride modes. You get four ride modes – Urban, Rain, Sport and Track. Of these, the Rain and Urban mode reduces the engine power and increases the intervention of ABS for more rider safety. The Track mode displays prominent readouts like the tachometer, gear position indicator and lap timer as by clearing the rest of the useless details from the screen. This enhances the rider concentration on the race tracks.

Not only this, the Chennai based company has ensured to give maximum to its customers with its SmartXonnect technology. The rider can connect to the panel with their smartphones via Bluetooth and access to a huge range of data about the bike and the rides. The new version of the RR 310 allows you to store up to three documents right on the console such as registration certificate, driver’s license and vehicle insurance etc.

Once connected to the mobile phone, the rider can get access to the data such as the trips, lap times, ride logs, average speed, lean angle, trip details and much more. While the meter cluster shows mobile phone notifications, messages, calls and GPS navigation. There is a four-way switches along with a select button on the left switch-gear to control the TFT screen settings. On the right switch gear, there is a mode button for toggling through the ride modes.

Moving on to the chassis, the TVS Apache RR310 is held together by a steel-trellis frame which is designed to be highly rigid providing superb ride and handling characteristics. The front wheel is fitted to USD cartridge forks that gets golden finish and the rear swing-arm features a monoshock unit with preload adjustability. This suspension setup is tuned to deliver both on the slow speed bump absorption and also high-speed stability. However, the overall feel of the suspension is slightly on the stiffer side.

This is where the Dynamic kit comes in. It features fully adjustable front USD forks and rear monoshock unit with compression and rebound damping adjustability along with preload adjustability. This makes it the only bike under Rs 3 lakhs or even under Rs 5 lakhs to comes with fully adjustable suspension setup. It is a great offering for professional racing riders who can adjust the suspension according to their requirements on the race track.

Further, the race kit offers changes to the ergonomics of the rider with lower-set clip-on handlebars and raised rider foot-pegs for better and more connected feeling.

For providing strong braking force, the bike comes fitted with a 300 mm petal disc brake at the front and are gripped by radially mounted callipers. On the rear wheel, you get a 240 mm disc gripped by a single piston floating calliper. A dual channel ABS is present for safer braking performance under emergency situations.

Speaking about the TVS Apache RR310, it is powered by a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, reverse inclined, 312.2cc, 4-valve DOHC engine. It makes 33 bhp of power at 9700 rpm and 27.3 Nm of torque at 7700 rpm. The transmission duties on this bike are handled by a 6-speed gearbox via a slip and assist clutch. Unlike the R15, which is featuring a quick-shifter in the 150cc segment, we expected the RR310 to comes with bi-directional quick-shifter for seamless gear shifting especially on the race track.

The acceleration of the RR310 from 0 to 60 kmph is achieved in 2.93 seconds and 0 to 100 kmph takes only 7.1 seconds with a top speed rated at 160 kmph in the sport and track mode. The top speed of the RR 310 is limited to 125 kmph in the urban and rain mode. This is because the power is reduced to around 25 bhp in the Urban and Rain mode.

In terms of fuel efficiency, the race Apache manages about 30 kmpl on an average day. However, while riding though the open roads, the mileage is achieved in the range of 35 kmpl. There is a 11-litre tank capacity that allows around 330 km of riding range before stopping on a fuel station.

The saddle height offered by the Apache RR 310 is 810 mm which is great for medium to tall riders but will prove to be a bit high for shorter riders out there. RR 310 is a great every day machine because its riding position without Race Kit is comfortable enough for daily commuting as well as highway touring. If you are looking for a feature packed motorcycle under Rs 3 lakhs, then Apache RR 310 is the one which offers best value.

KTM 390 Duke

Here we have the KTM 390 Duke on the second position of this list of top 5 feature rich bikes under 3 lakhs in India and it offers a number of less features when compared to the Apache RR 310 and also carries a higher price tag which doesn’t make it a proper value buy when compared to the RR 310 despite the fact that both these bikes belong to a completely different segment. KTM 390 Duke is a bike which is present in almost all the list that we have made till now because it is the most powerful bike that you can buy in the single-cylinder segment under 3 lakh mark.

It’s been a decade since the bike was first launched in India and still there is no replacement for the Duke 390 for what it offers to its riders, raw power and menacing performance. With a series of price hikes in last couple of years brought the price of the Duke 390 to Rs 2.87 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi.

The design of the 390 Duke is pretty amazing as it looks modern and bit of futuristic all thanks to its sharp lines and no curves whatsoever. Its front end features a segmented LED headlight cluster with LED tail-light and LED turn indicators. There are LED DRLs as well for illumination during day time.

The dashboard of the 390 Duke is occupied by a full-colour TFT meter console offering a wide range of info to the rider on a modern UI. There is a speedometer, odometer, trip meters, fuel gauge, gear position indicator, gear shift light, engine coolant temperature gauge, instantaneous fuel efficiency, average fuel efficiency, distance to empty and a lot more. There is provision for the rider to connect to the meter cluster with the smartphone via Bluetooth and get turn-by-turn GPS navigation right on the TFT display. It is by far the most advanced and feature-rich console on any bike sold by KTM.

Coming to the suspension setup, the KTM 390 Duke is fitted with USD forks on the front wheel and a monoshock is attached to the rear swing-arm. This setup is stiff and offers hard ride which is precise around the corners. The stability is spot-on and is surefooted for riding on any kind of road however, the ride become unsettling on the broken patches of roads. For managing the power with the grip, the 390 Duke uses soft compound tyres from MRF with 110/70 and 150/60 section tyres at the front and the rear respectively.

The Braking power is provided by a large 320 mm front rotor gripped by radially mounted callipers packing in sintered brake pads for delivering outstanding bite and quick speed shedding. A 230 mm disc is fitted on the rear wheel that is gripped by a floating single-piston calliper. The rider is kept safe by a dual-channel ABS which is calibrated for quick action over slippery roads and surface with lose grip.

It is not a great machine for shirt riders as the saddle height of 830 mm is pretty high to start with. It is a bike for tall riders to comfortable plant their feet on the road for greater control. The kerb weight stands at 167 kg making it light when compared to some other bikes in the segment.

KTM 390 Duke is propelled by a short-stroke, liquid-cooled, 373.2cc, fuel-injected, single-cylinder 4-valve DOHC engine. This mill cranks out massive 42.9 bhp of power at 9000 rpm and 37 Nm of torque at 7000 rpm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed transmission that houses gear ratios on the taller side.

Only 5.5 seconds are required for the 390 Duke to dash from 0 to 100 kmph as the first gear itself take the bike to over 70 kmph and second gear pushes the bike beyond 100 kmph mark. The engine has sufficient power to continue to push the bike to a top speed of 170 kmph and beyond.

In terms of mileage, the KTM 390 Duke is expected to return anything around 25 kmpl in mixed riding conditions and out on the highways, the mileage improves to about 30 kmpl. It features a 13.5-litre fuel tank that can provide a riding range of around 370 km in a single tankful on the highways. In the city rides, the average tank range falls down to around 320 km.

Royal Enfield Himalayan

The third place is won by the Royal Enfield Himalayan adventure motorcycle al thanks to its rich set of features and components that makes it an amazing highway tourer and relentless off-road machine. There is nothing the bikes misses considering it is made for touring and adventure and this is what makes it the most popular adventure bike under Rs 3 lakh mark. Its immediate rival is the KTM 250 Adventure which is Rs 20,000 more expensive than the Himalayan.

Royal Enfield Himalayan carries a price tag of Rs 2.10 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi and is available in multiple colour options at 2.14 lakh and Rs 2.18 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi.

This bike is made to be ridden on any kind of terrain including, roads, no-road, dirt, gravel, rocks, sand, water crossing or snow. The answer lies in its large 21-inch spoke wheel at the front and a 17-inch spoked rim. With 90/90 section and 120/90 section dual purpose tyres wrapped on the rims at the front and the rear. These tyres are dual-purpose units and they sport block patterns which are known to provide excellent grip off the road surfaces along with decent grip on the roads.

Next, the Himalayan is fitted with off-road tuned suspension. It gets telescopic forks on the front wheel with 190 mm front wheel travel and rear monoshock unit has 180 mm rear wheel travel. This range of suspension travel is far superior and has been design specifically to be used on the off-road scenarios without any secondary thought. These units are tuned between a balance of soft and stiffness and absorbs all the undulations with ease providing a comfortable and assuring ride.

Now coming to the instrumentation, the Himalayan features multiple dials. Among these dials is a large analogue speedometer on the left with LCD screen under it. The right side of the console features an analogue tachometer, analogue fuel gauge and a digital compass. On the other hand, the LCD displays readouts like odometer, trip meter, average speed, ambient temperature and so on. On the further right, you’ll find a small round TFT screen called Tripper navigation which is Bluetooth enabled. This device when connected to the smartphone offers turn-by-turn GPS navigation.

For bringing the adventure bike to a safe halt, a 300 mm front disc brake and 240 mm rear disc brake are fully responsible. There is a dual-channel ABS for keeping the rider safe under all situations and it is also switchable unit and with the toggle of a button, the ABS can be switched into a single channel unit for sliding the rear tyres around the turns on the off-road trails. For further safety, the bike gets hazard switch for enhancing the visibility in low visibility areas.

Himalayan is made for long distance touring and it is very well provided by perfect ergonomics. The rider sits completely upright holding on to the raise handlebars and well-padded seat with large dimensions. Also, the rider gets to place his/her feet on the centre-set foot-pegs which makes it possible for the rider to stand on them for off-road fun. Coming to the seats, the Himalayan has large seats for both the rider and the pillion and allows for frequent adjustments while riding on the highways. The saddle height is respectfully pegged at 800 mm which is spot-on for an adventure bike that most riders can ride.

A large windshield visor is also present for deflecting those annoying high-speed wind-blasts on the highways. One can easily stay on the saddle for long distances without being succumbing to the wind buffeting and tiredness caused by the same.

Speaking about the engine on the Himalayan, the adventure tourer bike is powered by an air-cooled, 411cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected, 2-valve SOHC, four-stroke engine. This long-stroke powerplant kicks out 24.3 bhp of max power at 6500 rpm and 32 Nm of torque at 4500 rpm. There is a 5-speed gearbox connected to the motor via a wet multi-plate clutch.

With a kerb weight of 199 kg, the Himalayan is pretty heavy for the engine it comes with and might feel under-powered for some riders. The power to weight ratio stands at just 122 bhp per ton whereas the torque to weight ratio is over 160 Nm per ton which is assuring for off-road riding.

The average mileage that you can expect from the Royal Enfield Himalayan is around 30 to 32 kmpl. When this number is multiplied by 15-litre fuel tank capacity, anything around 450 km riding range can be projected from a single tankful. This kind of riding range ensures that there will be fewer fuel stops on the long hauls.

BMW G 310 R

BMW G 310 R is stable on the fourth position all thanks to its price revision and decent features list and brand value. BMW Motorrad is a premium motorcycle brand which offers a range of bikes in India and the G 310 R is its most affordable offering in the Indian market. The roadster has only one competitor as of now and it is from a brand not known to many, the CFMoto 300 NK. However, Honda has announced another rival is the form of CB300R which will be launched in India in 2022.

The price of the BMW G 310 R is Rs 2.60 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi and is priced exactly similar to the TVS Apache RR 310 which is also based on the engine and chassis of the BMW. However, it is not as profoundly feature loaded as the Apache, it is very much on offering a premium brand value that is not available anywhere else.

Starting with the front, the G 310 R comes loaded with full LED headlight cluster with LED DRLs that looks smart. The design of the bike is smooth and non-ageing because it is simpler and modern. All other lighting is made of LED units including the tail-light and the turn indicators.

On the dashboard, you’ll find that BMW saved some bucks by offering an LCD screen where it had the change of providing a colourful TFT unit. Despite its looks, the LCD panel provides a whole lot of information including the speedometer, tachometer, odometer, twin trip meters, gear position indicator, fuel gauge, engine temperature gauge, average fuel consumption, instant fuel consumption, average speed, distance to empty, service due indicator and more. No Bluetooth connectivity feature is present on the G 310 R otherwise, the bike from German manufacturer would be higher up in the list.

You get shiny golden USD forks attached to the front wheel which is sourced from KYB and a monoshock unit is bolted on to the rear swing-arm. The company managed to set the suspension units as per the Indian road conditions because comfort and stability is what riders would seek from a roadster of this price range. The steel trellis frame is another top-notch feature on the bike which is responsible for superior handling, nimbleness and stability.

For stopping the bike, you get a 300 mm petal disc on the front wheel gripped by a 4-piston radially mounted callipers and a 240 mm rotor on the rear wheel gripped by one-piston calliper. A dual channel ABS keeps hard braking safer by preventing the wheels from skidding up under heavy brake lever actuation.

Powering the BMW G 310 R is a four-stroke, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, fuel-injected, 313cc, 4-valve DOHC engine. This engine is made to churn out 33.5 bhp at 9250 rpm and 28 Nm torque at 7500 rpm. There is a slipper clutch between the motor and the 6-speed gearbox that send power to the rear wheel. Performance-wise, the German roadster sprints from 0 to 100 kmph in 7 seconds and charges up to company claimed top speed of 143 kmph.

BMW G 310 R can return a real-world fuel economy of around 30 kmpl under mixed riding conditions. However, out on the open roads, the bike has the capacity to provide over 32 kmpl. It gets a pretty small 11-litre tank that is good only for 320 km range.

This particular bike is a great buy if you are looking for a modern roadster with upright riding posture allowing for long distance touring apart form daily city commuting. It is light in weight at just 164 kg and the saddle height is just 785 mm making it a great machine for shorter riders as well.

Bajaj Dominar 400

Here we come to the last position on this list and it has been occupied by the flagship motorcycle from Bajaj, the Dominar 400. It is a feature rich bike and offer great value as well because it is the most powerful bike one can buy at the price tag it carries. Bajaj Dominar is projected as a hyper tourer for the young and the dynamic riders of the country.

At Rs 2,16,648 ex-showroom New Delhi, the Dominar is much expensive than what it was about two years ago. This time around, the bike comes fitted with a tall front windshield visor and knuckle guards for protecting the rider from high-speed wind-blast and the hands of the rider while travelling through cold regions.

The front section is the most interesting part of the Dominar 400, there is an 8-section LED headlight cluster which illuminated the road well at night. It also gets LED DRLs, tail-light as well as turn indicators making it a premium product. Its riding posture is upright and comfortable as rider holds on to the raised handlebars. There is a split seat unit which is large enough to accommodate a rider and a pillion comfortably for long distance touring.

Moving on to the dashboard, the bike has a fully digital meter console made up of negative LCD screen. You get all the important info such as speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, average fuel economy and instantaneous fuel economy with distance to empty readout. A small LCD screen is fitted on the top of fuel tank that displays the odometer and trip meter with gear position indicator. Had it come with Bluetooth connectivity suite, the bike would be above other in this list.

With 800 mm of saddle height, the bike seems to be just fine for most riders. However, its kerb weight of 185 kg might hamper its manageability in the traffic conditions. Coming out on the open roads, the heft of the Dominar blesses it with greater stability at higher speeds.

Bajaj Dominar 400 is held together by a pressed steel perimeter frame which promises rigid handling and nimbleness despite the heavy weight of the bike. It is easy to control and tackle the corners with confidence. The front wheel is connected with a pair of USD forks and the rear swing-arm is bolted on to a monoshock unit. This setup is designed to handle the weight of the bike along with the road undulations and therefore it is a bit stiff but absorbs the bumps and jerks with relatively ease.

There is a large 320 mm rotor on the front wheel gripped by a radially mounted 2-piston callipers. A 230 mm rotor is fitted on the rear wheel with single piston floating calliper. Rider safety is managed by a dual channel ABS.

Bajaj Dominar 400 derives its power from a 373.2cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, 4-valve DOHC engine. This powerplant puts of max power of 39.42 bhp at 8800 rpm and 35 Nm torque at 6500 rpm. The reduction is handled by a 6-speed gearbox which is fitted to the engine via a slipper clutch.

In the performance section, the Dominar 400 can pull itself from 0 to 100 kmph in just 7.6 seconds which is quite slow for a bike of this calibre because of it high kerb weight of 185 kg. The top speed of the Dominar 400 is around 160 kmph. That said, the cruising speed of the bike turns out to be 100-120 kmph without straining the engine.

With such a big engine and breath-taking performance, the Dominar 400 manages to deliver a fuel efficiency of 25 to 27 kmpl in mixed riding conditions. About 30 kmpl is expected on the highways which is still on the lower side for a regular rider. It has a 13-litre fuel tank that could offer tank range of around 350 km which can be termed as decent for the bike of this size and heft.
