The 2023 Kawasaki Ninja 650 is a versatile motorcycle that combines sporty performance with comfort. It features advanced technology, improved aesthetics, and a powerful 649cc engine. While it excels in many areas, it lacks some character and has room for improvement in suspension and tire grip for cornering.

Kawasaki Ninja 650

The Kawasaki Ninja 650 is a fully-faired middleweight sport-touring motorcycle that offers a good mix of sporty styling, strong performance, and reasonable everyday practicality. First launched in India in its current avatar in 2017, the Ninja 650 has received several updates over the years, including cosmetic changes and added features. It’s powered by the same 649cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine that powers the Z650, but it offers a slightly more aerodynamic and sport-focused riding experience. Equipped with LED lighting, a TFT digital console, dual-channel ABS, and a fairing design inspired by the bigger models in the Ninja ZX series, the Ninja 650 caters to riders looking for a comfortable, reliable, and sporty middleweight. It competes in the Indian market against rivals like the Honda CBR650R.

<p>The Kawasaki Ninja 650 is priced slightly above the Z650 due to its added fairing and touring capabilities. The ex-showroom price of the Ninja 650 in India is approximately ₹7.27 lakh. This makes it one of the more accessible fully-faired 650cc motorcycles available in the country. The on-road price in Delhi comes to around ₹8.33 lakh, which includes insurance, registration charges, and taxes. The Mumbai on-road price can cross ₹9.08 lakh, depending on local taxes and RTO charges. The Ninja 650 is currently available in a single variant and comes in multiple bold paint schemes, including Lime Green, Metallic Matte Graphenesteel Gray, and Pearl Robotic White.</p>

<p>Despite being a faired motorcycle, the Ninja 650 retains the same engine platform as the Z650 and offers practical mileage figures for a mid-capacity twin. Real-world fuel economy varies between 20–25 kmpl, depending on traffic conditions and throttle usage. On highways, the Ninja 650 can return up to 26–27 kmpl, while city usage typically sees mileage in the range of 18–21 kmpl. With a 15-litre fuel tank, the Ninja 650 offers a real-world range of over 300 km, making it suitable for daily commutes as well as weekend touring.</p>

<p>The Kawasaki Ninja 650 shares its mechanicals with the Z650 but is tuned for a slightly more relaxed yet sportier ride. The 649cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine delivers 68 PS at 8,000 rpm and 64 Nm at 6,700 rpm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch. The bike gets telescopic forks at the front and a horizontal back-link monoshock at the rear. Braking is handled by dual 300 mm petal discs at the front and a 220 mm disc at the rear, with dual-channel ABS offered as standard. It also comes with a 4.3-inch TFT colour display, Kawasaki Rideology app connectivity, and full LED lighting for enhanced visibility and modern appeal.</p><figure class="table"><table><tbody><tr><td>Specifications</td><td>Details</td></tr><tr><td>Engine</td><td>649cc, Parallel-twin, Liquid-cooled</td></tr><tr><td>Power</td><td>68 PS @ 8,000 rpm</td></tr><tr><td>Torque</td><td>64 Nm @ 6,700 rpm</td></tr><tr><td>Top Speed</td><td>~200 km/h</td></tr><tr><td>Mileage (Claimed)</td><td>20–25 kmpl</td></tr><tr><td>Transmission</td><td>6-speed, Assist &amp; Slipper Clutch</td></tr><tr><td>Weight</td><td>196 kg</td></tr><tr><td>Seat Height</td><td>790 mm</td></tr><tr><td>Fuel Tank Capacity</td><td>15 litres</td></tr></tbody></table></figure>
