The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R is a middleweight supersport motorcycle that combines racetrack performance with real-world usability. Reintroduced to the Indian market in its latest avatar in 2024, the ZX-6R is a popular choice among enthusiasts looking for litre-class thrills in a more manageable and more affordable package. Designed to slot between entry-level sportbikes and litre-class superbikes, the ZX-6R gets a 636cc inline-four engine that delivers strong performance throughout the rev range. With a sharp design, aggressive ergonomics, and advanced electronics, the Ninja ZX-6R targets experienced riders who want track-ready performance in a relatively accessible format. It competes with bikes like the Honda CBR650R and Triumph Daytona Moto2 765 in the premium sportbike segment of the Indian market.
The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R is priced at ₹11.53 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. This places it in the premium middleweight sportbike category. On-road pricing in Delhi comes to approximately ₹13.29 lakh. This includes insurance, registration, and handling charges. Due to regional taxation differences, the on-road cost in cities vary. For example, the prices are much higher in cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru, where the same motorcycle costs ₹14.29 lakh and ₹14.92 lakh, respectively.
Despite its high price tag, the ZX-6R is among the more value-oriented supersport offerings in the country. This is thanks to its performance-focused engine and top-tier electronics package. It’s offered in a single variant with two paint options – the iconic Kawasaki Lime Green and a stealthier Metallic Graphite Gray.
As expected from a high-performance middleweight, fuel efficiency isn’t a major selling point of the ZX-6R. Claimed mileage stands at around 20-22 kmpl under ideal conditions. In city riding, users typically report 16-18 kmpl depending on traffic and throttle usage. On the highway, a steady cruising pace can help push it up to 22-24 kmpl. The bike features a 17-litre fuel tank, translating into a riding range of approximately 300–350 km on a full tank.
The Ninja ZX-6R draws power from a 636cc, liquid-cooled, inline-four engine that produces 124 PS at 13,000 rpm and 69 Nm of torque at 10,800 rpm. It comes with a 6-speed gearbox assisted by a quick-shifter and slipper clutch. Electronic rider aids include traction control, dual-channel ABS, riding modes, and power modes. Suspension duties are handled by fully adjustable Showa Separate Function-Big Piston forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. Braking is managed by dual 310 mm discs up front and a 220 mm disc at the rear. With a kerb weight of 196 kg and a seat height of 830 mm, the ZX-6R feels compact yet commanding.
